Portraiture is also a continuous genre in Al Mazrouei’s practice. All of his portraits are of fictional personalities, in which the intention is pure expression that relies on lines, colours, and, forms. Untitled 81 (2010) captures facial expressions in the figure’s wide-set eyes, however is complimented by almost aged expressions of vivid colour that surround the figure to capture the artist’s expressive state when creating the work.
