Aisha Alabbar Gallery is pleased to collaborate with Abu Dhabi Art in showcasing  interactive installations by Dr. Najat Makki and Nujoom Alghanem as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023, which takes place at ADNEC and will run until the 19th of January 2023.

Dr. Najat Makki presents Covid-19 (2021), an interactive installation that is composed of 19 hollow metal ellipses that are suspended from the ceiling. Each ellipse contains small metal balls that emit sound at the slightest motion caused by wind or human interaction. The artist speaks to isolation during the early stages pandemic, where humanity was confined to certain spaces, disconnected from the outside world. Through reflection, the work becomes an optical illusion as to the proximity the ellipses float from one another, reminding us that perception is key to every situation we are faced with.

Nujoom Alghanem  showcases That Sea (2020 - 2022),  an immersive video installation comprised of a grid of small abstract blue-tone paintings on canvas that act as a screen for a projection of sea water in motion. The project highlights the sea stretching to the horizon, questioning whether it is a beginning or an end, an open path or a border. That Sea (2020 - 2022) is presented in collaboration with Maraya Art Centre.
