Biography
Shooq AlShawi (b. 1988, Bahrain) is a Bahraini, London-based painter whose practice centers on abstract, gestural compositions. Working primarily with oil and oil stick on canvas, her work explores themes of presence, memory, and the emotional traces we leave behind. Through layered mark-making and intuitive movement, she creates works that invite reflection and a deeply personal connection with the viewer.
AlShawi holds a BA (Hons) in Product Design Development for the Fashion Industry from the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London (2010), and completed her Foundation in Art and Design at Newcastle College (2006). Alongside her artistic practice, she brings a rich background in luxury and design, having worked with leading houses such as Louis Vuitton and Maison Pierre Hardy, and founding her own consultancy supporting creatives across the jewellery and luxury sectors.
Her work has gained increasing recognition, most recently being shortlisted for ArtEvol 2025: Voices from the Undefined at the Saatchi Gallery. In 2026, she will participate in the Beyond Studios Artists Program and undertake a residency at Turps Banana in London, alongside exhibiting at the Bahrain Annual Art Exhibition at the Bahrain National Museum.
Beyond her studio practice, AlShawi is an active contributor to cultural discourse, having participated in talks, panels, and initiatives spanning art, fashion, and social impact.
